Meet Keaton’s Kiddo Makai

Meet 13-year-old and football-loving kiddo, Makai, and his family. This Keaton Kiddo began his new journey on November 21, 2021, when he was diagnosed with the most common leukemia diagnosis in children, Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia, a cancer of the blood and bone marrow.

Since Makai’s initial introduction to Keaton’s, our Family Navigator team has continuously connected with his family to ensure they feel supported, whether it be through calls and conversations, or through the nutritional support of grocery gift cards. To bring some joy to the family, a Family Navigator had the honor of hand delivering personalized Hope Chests to the Makai and his four siblings! These kiddos BURSTED with excitement and immediately began opening every item in their Hope Chests!

Our Family Navigator team will continue to grow a strong and meaningful connection with this resilient family and we look forward to seeing them at future family events!

“I would like to thank you for the rainbow in our storm. Life has turned upside down for our family but it’s faith and hope we hold onto to keep pushing. Your Hope Chest gave us smiles and encouragement to push knowing we have amazing people on our side. We appreciate you Keaton Family.”- Makai’s mom, Sharmeila

While the focus is understandably on the child battling cancer, siblings face their own emotional challenges. They may experience feelings of worry, fear, confusion, or even guilt, and it’s important to acknowledge their role and provide support for them as well.

Meet Keaton’s Kiddo Stryder, a fun-loving 5-year-old who enjoys animals and race cars! At just two years old, Stryder was diagnosed with stage 4 high risk neuroblastoma, a form of cancer that develops from immature nerve cells, and spreads to distant parts of the body. When Stryder was diagnosed, he was just three months away from celebrating his 3rd Birthday. A time that was supposed to be exciting and celebratory turned into a moment of heartbreak, and what began as an ordinary childhood took a dramatic and heart-wrenching turn, turning his and his family’s world upside down.
