Hope, Strength, and Healing for families coping with a child cancer diagnosis

Welcome 2023 Summer Interns

Join us in welcoming our 2023 summer interns; Jennifer and Zoan.

As the number of families that we support continues to rise, having interns provides the opportunity to connect more with families battling childhood cancer. We are honored to host interns that are such a valued part of Keaton’s Child Cancer Alliance.

Jennifer is a student at California State University Sacramento (CSUS), currently participating in the Summer Intensive Program (SIP) working towards earning her Bachelors in Social Work. She’s taking this amazing opportunity to learn and connect with families. Jennifer chose Keaton’s after meeting staff at a career fair at Sacramento State. After hearing about the positive experiences of past interns, Jennifer knew she wanted to join the amazing team to help make an impact on families.

“I’m very grateful for the opportunity to be an intern at Keaton’s Child Cancer Alliance. I’m excited to build connections with all the children and the families I will meet during my time here at Keaton’s. I’m excited to learn and for all the memories I will create during my time here. I look forward to serving the community while expanding my knowledge with all the amazing resources.” ~ Jennifer

Zoan is also a student at California State University Sacramento (CSUS), where she will complete a Bachelor’s in Social Work. Zoan previously worked for Riverside County in Southern California as a Behavioral Health Peer Specialist in their Wraparound Program. There she formed partnerships with Behavioral Health professionals, probation, lawyers, and schools to support the seamless integration of clients into their families. Zoan will use the knowledge and skills acquired at CSUS and prior experience to work with the families at Keaton’s Child Cancer Alliance. Upon graduation, Zoan plans to work towards her Master’s of Social Work and eventually her LCSW.

“I am ready for the adventure of being a part of the Keaton’s Family Navigator Team. I look forward to engaging and partnering with amazing families as they navigate through their journey. It is a pleasure to work with the caring and seasoned Keaton’s team using the learned skills with real-world experience while expanding my knowledge is thrilling. I am passionate about working with children and families and look forward to the opportunity to join Keaton’s Child Cancer Alliance in the fight against childhood cancer.” ~ Zoan

The entire Keaton’s Child Cancer Alliance team is pleased to have these wonderful interns for the summer. They have already begun working with families and are making a tremendous impact. Welcome, Jennifer and Zoan!

Keaton’s Back-to-School

As a part of our Education, Research & Advocacy Program, Keaton’s hosted our 2nd annual Back-to-School event just in time for the new school year! Kiddos and siblings shared joy and excitement as they picked out a brand-new backpack, lunchbox, and essential school supplies, and put their skills to the test by participating in on-site STEM activities. It was such a great time connecting with so many families and helping them get prepared for an exciting new school year! For those families who couldn’t attend this event, our team of Family Navigators were honored to hand-deliver the backpacks and school supplies knowing how crucial this support is for many families.
