Esperanza, fortaleza y sanación para familias que enfrentan un diagnóstico de cáncer infantil

Advocacy & Education

We participate in initiatives to raise the profile of childhood cancer issues.

Research Funding

Research is the key to finding a cure for our children.  “Save a child, Invest in a cure” remains Keaton’s Child Cancer Alliance’s quest. We continue to invest in local and national research projects.  Keaton’s Child Cancer Alliance has raised over $7 million dollars for childhood cancer research.

St. Baldrick’s Partnership

St. Baldrick’s head-shaving events began as a challenge between businessmen. Tim Kenny issued a challenge to colleagues John Bender and Enda McDonnell: How will you give back in return for your own good fortune in business? Enda’s thick head of hair gives John the big idea—shave their heads for donations to raise funds for kids with cancer. Founders make the leap— and the St. Baldrick’s Foundation is created in 2004 to maximize this volunteer–driven effort. This idea has grown from one event in 2000 to over 1,300 events in 2014, all raising critical funds for childhood cancer research.

Keaton’s Child Cancer Alliance partnered with St. Baldrick’s 15 years ago to host the Head Shaving Extravaganzas in Roseville, Sacramento and Oakland regions designed to raise funds, on a local and national level, to support childhood cancer research. In solidarity with children battling cancer, “Heroes” get their heads shaved by the talented supercortes team in front of over one thousand, and in return receive pledges of financial support towards a cure.

UC Davis Comprehensive Cancer Center is recognized nationally as a leader in cancer research, care and education, with a goal of breaking barriers to beat cancer. As a Keaton’s Child Cancer Alliance Partner, we work with UC Davis Comprehensive Cancer Center for our Family Navigator Program and End of Therapy Celebrations. Because of the partnership with Keaton’s Child Cancer Alliance and St. Baldrick’s Foundation, a large portion of dollars raised through getbald.com events remains local at the UC Davis Comprehensive Cancer center to support research and families affected in our own community.

Locally, through Keaton’s Child Cancer Alliance’s head shaving events, we raise over $500,000 annually.   Over the past 15 years, together with the communities help, we have raised over $7 million dollars.

All funds go to the St. Baldrick’s Foundation and through a partnership that local childhood cancer organization, Keaton’s Child Cancer Alliance has built, a portion of these dollars stays local at UC Davis Comprehensive Cancer Center. All of these dollars go directly towards childhood cancer research for advancements in cures and healthy lives for these kids.

To date, Keaton’s Child Cancer Alliance has exceeded $1.5 million in donations to UC Davis Comprehensive Cancer Center for research towards a cure for pediatric cancer and Keaton’s Child Cancer Alliance is the single largest donor for Pediatric Cancer Research at UCD Comprehensive Cancer Center, and is a national leader in pediatric cancer awareness and research support.

Education

Educating our communities about childhood cancer remains a top priority for Keaton’s Child Cancer Alliance.  Knowing the facts helps people understand the urgency to assist families in our community and invest in a cure.  Keaton’s Child Cancer Alliance educate’s our communities by:  Distributing gold ribbon pins with facts about childhood cancer & Coordinating national childhood cancer awareness campaigns and public service announcements during Childhood Cancer Awareness Month (September).
