Jessica Alonso<\/h2>

Jessica joined Keaton\u2019s in 2014 as a Family Navigator supporting children and their families upon the moment of diagnosis and throughout various stages of treatment, into survivorship and in some cases bereavement. This opportunity united her true passions: love for children, mission to help others, and advocacy for those touched by cancer.\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0<\/span><\/p>

In 2017, Jessica was promoted to the Founding Director of the Family Navigator Program, further developing the core direct supportive services as well as increasing community partnerships. In her role, she has provided supervision and mentorship of over 30 interns pursuing degrees in Social Work primarily from Sacramento State University.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

For over seven years, she has dedicated herself to serving families with a compassionate heart, empathetic ear, and warm embrace as they navigate the most difficult times of their lives while vowing to never, ever give up on their child. As Executive Director, she is responsible for inspiring broad vision and strategic planning while coordinating the leadership activities of the non-profit.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

\u201cI am honored to lead Keaton\u2019s Child Cancer Alliance as the new Executive Director. The children and families we serve are my inspiration to passionately bring awareness to pediatric cancer while further developing our programs to best meet each family member\u2019s unique needs. Jessica received her Master\u2019s degree in Medical Sciences from the University of South Florida College of Medicine and a B.S. in Microbiology graduated from the University of Florida. Her collegiate experience included extensive research and community-based interventions such as the Family Health Self-Empowerment Project. She is certified in Trauma Informed Care, Motivational Interviewing, and Youth Mental Health First Aid. She has served on the UC Davis Adolescent and Young Adult (AYA) Cancer Advisory Board and American Childhood Cancer Organization (ACCO) Advocacy Committee.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

As Programs Director at Keaton’s Child Cancer Alliance, Kourtney Brandt and her team of Family Navigators lead vital initiatives supporting families affected by childhood cancer. Working directly with families throughout their cancer journey, she ensures they receive personalized support, resources, and hope during their most challenging moments. Her hands-on approach to family advocacy and program development continues to strengthen the comprehensive support services that make a meaningful difference in the lives of pediatric cancer patients and their loved ones.<\/p>

Drawing from her extensive background in community development and public relations from California State University, Sacramento, Kourtney brings proven expertise in strategic communication and stakeholder engagement. Throughout her career at organizations like ZERO Prostate Cancer, The ALS Association, and the American Cancer Society, she has demonstrated excellence in community development, and providing compelling advocacy at both state and national levels. Her core strengths in leadership, project management, and community outreach have consistently translated into meaningful impact for the communities she serves.\u00a0<\/p>

Debbie Michao is one of our Bilingual Family Navigators at Keaton\u2019s Child Cancer Alliance. Her role is to provide case management by offering support, connecting families to local resources, and advocating for families to meet their needs.<\/p>

Debbie earned a Bachelor\u2019s degree in Social Work from California State University, Sacramento in 2021 and since then has utilized her skills to volunteer with our Family Navigator Program at Keaton’s. She has always had a passion for working with children and prior to joining our team, volunteered at several different community organizations in the Sacramento area.<\/p>

Coming from a Hispanic\/Latino origin and learning Spanish as her first language, Debbie has developed the innate skill of supporting primarily Spanish-speaking youth and families. Coming alongside our team at Keaton’s, she hopes to further develop our support and resources for the Hispanic\/Latino families we serve and create a pathway where they feel heard and understood.<\/p>

Iocebeth Olson serves as one of the Family Navigators and the Thriving Together Coordinator at Keaton\u2019s. In this role, she has the honor of walking alongside families as they face the challenges of a pediatric cancer diagnosis, providing guidance and compassionate support. Her responsibilities include care coordination and mental health advocacy, ensuring that families have access to vital emotional and psychological resources during such a critical time.<\/p>

She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Behavioral Health Sciences with an emphasis in Trauma from Grand Canyon University in 2024. Prior to joining the Keaton\u2019s team, she gained experience working in Corrections and a high-acuity psychiatric hospital – roles that significantly deepened her understanding of trauma and resilience. Her own journey of overcoming personal trauma inspired a strong sense of purpose in helping others heal and move forward.<\/p>

“It is truly an honor to be part of the Keaton\u2019s team, and I look forward to supporting families impacted by pediatric cancer so they can focus on what matters most – their children and each other. It is my heartfelt mission to be both a shoulder to lean on and a trusted resource for those seeking mental health support. Fernanda Roman<\/h2>

Fernanda Roman is one of our Bilingual Family Navigators and our Teen Alliance Coordinator. Her role is to provide support to families, connect them with local resources, and advocate for familial support in any form. As the Teen Alliance Coordinator, she hopes to further develop our support and resources for the teens we serve and create a pathway where they feel heard and understood.\u00a0<\/p>

Fernanda earned a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology with minors in Criminal Justice and Gender and Sexuality Studies from California State University, Chico in 2022. Prior to joining Keaton’s Child Cancer Alliance, she worked in behavioral and mental health at a nonprofit, providing emotional support through support groups to diverse populations in Butte County. There, she also advocated for more accessible mental health resources for the Hispanic\/Latino community. She is excited to be able to continue to support families in her community and provide bilingual support as a native Spanish speaker.\u00a0<\/p>

As the Development Director, Sonya is passionate about fostering both longstanding and new partnerships with exceptional stewardship. Her mission is to elevate Keaton’s to new heights, enabling the organization to fund even more programs and services for the children and families we serve.<\/p>

Sonya\u2019s nonprofit journey began in 1998 with the American Cancer Society, where she supported the fight against cancer for over 26 years. Her final role as Development Manager for Making Strides Against Breast Cancer allowed her to make a significant impact on the community by building relationships, providing crucial support, and raising essential funds. These invaluable skills have made Sonya the perfect fit to join the Keaton’s team.<\/p>

Before joining Keaton\u2019s Child Cancer Alliance, Melinda was a volunteer for the organization and when the opportunity became available she applied for the position. Melinda\u2019s background includes administrative roles in for-profit corporations, however, her true aspiration has been to work in philanthropy.\u00a0 KCCA is a perfect fit for both her nurturing and caring personality.<\/p>

Alicia K. Shrum is our Marketing Director. \u00a0She brings with her a passion for the community and a drive to support Keaton\u2019s Child Cancer Alliance and our mission of serving families during the most difficult time in their lives. \u00a0She is truly dedicated to helping the community and holds a special place in her heart for non-profits.<\/p>

Alicia\u00a0earned her BS from California State University, Sacramento with her studies focusing on Sociology with a minor in Psychology. \u00a0Her studies also included marketing, economics and business. \u00a0Prior to coming to\u00a0KCCA Alicia worked in the corporate world of insurance, leaving when her son was born to pursue being a homemaker and full time mom. \u00a0During this time Alicia has\u00a0continued to support her community through volunteering and community outreach efforts.<\/p>
